Biography

Born in Barcelona, David Giménez Carreras studied piano and composition at the Conservatori del Liceu in his hometown. Later on, he specialized in conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna and at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Sir Colin Davis. Since making his debut with the Hannover NDR Orchestra in 1994, he has appeared worldwide leading the most prominent orchestras and soloists in venues like the Royal Albert Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Salle Pleyel, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo's Suntory Hall, and at both New York's Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. During these years, David Giménez Carreras has conducted more than 200 orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the Philharmonia, Münchner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de Paris, Chicago Symphony, Tokyo Symphony and New Japan Philharmonic, and appeared with soloists such as Yo yo Ma.

Opera is understandably an important part of the maestro Giménez Carreras' schedule. He has performed is wide operatic repertoire at the Vienna Staatsoper, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Zurich Opera, Berlin Deutsche Oper, Theatre du Champs Elysées, Washington Opera, Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu, Madrid's Teatro Real or Sydney Opera House. Highly estimated for his exceptional understanding of voices, David Giménez Carreras collaborates regularely with singers such as José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa, Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, Bryn Terfel or Agnes Baltsa.

In the next months David Giménez Carreras will appear on the podiums of the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, Zagreb Radio Orchestra, RTE Philharmonic Dublin and Bucharest Philharmonic, orchestra from which he is Principal Guest Conductor since 2007. In his country maestro Giménez Carreras will conduct orchestras like Sinfónica de Euskadi, Sinfónica de Córdoba or Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, after his extremely succesful period as Chief Conductor (2006-2009). He will also appear at theaters like Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao or Theatre du Champs Elysées in Paris, and will join José Carreras, Kiri te Kanawa or Roberto Alagna for different tours in Europe, Asia and South America.

Maestro David Giménez's recordings include works for Decca, BMG Classics, Koch-Schwann, Erato and Discmedi.
