Biography

Celine Byrne from Naas, Co. Kildare is making her mark on both the operatic and concert stages throughout the world. Her appearances at major concert houses both in Ireland and abroad, including: Carnegie Hall, the National Concert Hall, Dublin, the Hermitage, St. Petersburg, Tchaikovsky Hall, Moscow and Berliner Philharmonie have been greeted with enthusiastic acclaim by her audiences. "She has presence, a powerful and flexible voice, and the intelligence to understand how music and words work together" - The Irish Times.

Most recently Celine has sung the role of Mimi in La Boheme for Scottish Opera for which she was described as "a soprano of fine lyrical quality and a touching actor too"- Opera magazine. She has also recorded an album with the National Symphony orchestra and RTE Lyric FM, which will go on general release next month.

Celine currently recieves coaching at the Vienna Staatsopera . She has a Masters in Music from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin where she studied with Dr. Veronica Dunne, also receiving the RIAM award for outstanding achievement. She also has an honours Music Degree from the Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin, where she was also awarded the college Gold Medal for excellence. There she studied with Edith Forrest and coach Trudi Carberry. Celine also received part time coaching at the National Opera Studio of London and was a participant in the inaugural artistic development programme with Wexford Opera and in April 2007 made her Carnegie Hall Debut.

Celine has received many awards both on a national and international platform. She was awarded First Prize at the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens 2007, the William Young Prize at the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, Dublin 2007, and the 'Brabants Dagblad Press Prize' at the IVC International Singing Competition in s'Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands 2006. Celine is also winner of 10 prizes at the Feis Ceoil, Dublin, the Bill Canning Bursary, Waterford 2003, and the John Mc Cormack Bursary, Dublin 2003.

Celine has become familiar to international audiences thanks to her collaboration with world-renowned tenors José Carreras and Roberto Alagna. Together with Carreras, Celine has graced stages in Rotterdam, Linköuping, Malmö, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Nürnberg, Hamburg and Zadar. Her musical partnership with Roberto Alagna has seen her in concert in Russia's two major artistic centers; Tchaikovsky Hall, Moscow and at the famous Mikhailovsky (Mussorgsky) Theater, St Petersburg. Celine has also performed with many of the most prestigious names in classical music including Evelyn Glennie and Steven Doane. She has also sung for Pope Benedict XVI and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Celine has been invited to sing at several classical music festivals around the world including the Central European Festival Zilina, Slovakia, The Arts Masters, St Moritz, Switzerland and Musical Olympus Festival St. Catherine's Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Celine's roles includes Countess Almaviva LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Donna Elvira DON GIOVANNI, Fiordiligi COSI FAN TUTTE, Nora RIDERS TO THE SEA, Mimi LA BOHEME, Nedda I PAGLIACCI, Rosalinde DIE FLEDERMAUS, Hanna Glawari THE MERRY WIDOW, Liu TOURANDOT, Micaela CARMEN and Wally LA WALLY.

Future engagements include a concert with Mr. José Carreras in Ljubljana Slovenia in October, The Celine Byrne Christmas Gala on December 10th in the NCH, Dublin, a Viennese Concert with the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast Waterfront and a USA tour with Camerata Ireland in the spring.
